The IPL 2027 trade window is heating up, and Tuesday, November 3, 2026 brought the biggest buzz yet: reports say Hardik Pandya is heading to Punjab Kings in a swap with Mumbai Indians. Only the Rishabh Pant–Kuldeep Yadav deal is confirmed so far.

Retention and release lists are due November 17, player registration closes November 23, and the mini-auction takes place in Goa on December 16. Here’s the full IPL 2027 trade players list, rumours, rules and what it means.

IPL 2027 Trade Window at a Glance

Before we get into names, it helps to know the calendar, because every trade rumour you read is racing against these dates.

Player registration for the auctionNovember 2 to November 23, 2026

The BCCI pushed the retention deadline back by two days because the original date, November 15, clashed with the fifth India vs New Zealand ODI. The mini-auction date and venue did not change.

What Is the IPL Trade Window and How Do IPL Trades Work?

The IPL trade window is the period when franchises can swap or buy players from each other without going through an auction. As per the rules reported by Cricinfo, it opens a month after a season ends, stays open until a week before the auction, and then reopens and runs until a month before the next season begins.

A trade can happen in two broad ways:

  • Player-for-player swap: Two franchises exchange players, like the Pant and Kuldeep deal or the reported Hardik and Arshdeep exchange.
  • All-cash deal: One franchise pays a transfer fee to the other. This is how Hardik Pandya moved from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians before IPL 2024.

In practice, both franchises and the player have to agree, and the paperwork has to be processed by IPL officials before anything is official. That’s why you’ll often read “talks are advanced” days or even weeks before a formal announcement.

IPL 2027 Confirmed Trades So Far

At the time of writing, one deal has been officially completed since the IPL 2026 season ended. It happened back in June and involved Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants.

PlayerFromToFee
Rishabh PantLucknow Super GiantsDelhi Capitals₹15 crore
Kuldeep YadavDelhi CapitalsLucknow Super Giants₹13.5 crore

Some outlets count this as “two trades” because two players changed teams, but it is one swap between the same two franchises. Pant’s fee of ₹15 crore is a revised figure and is well below the ₹27 crore LSG paid for him at auction, which still makes him the most expensive player in IPL history.

Hardik Pandya to Punjab Kings: The Biggest IPL 2027 Trade Rumour

If there is one name driving the IPL 2027 trade news, it is Hardik Pandya.

What the reports say

According to a report in Sportstar, which was picked up by The Federal, DNA and News24, Punjab Kings have “advanced considerably” in talks with Mumbai Indians. The proposed deal sends Arshdeep Singh and wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod to Mumbai in exchange for Hardik.

The senior management of both franchises have reportedly all but agreed, the documentation is expected to be processed by IPL officials, and an announcement is likely later this week. News24 adds that the first approach reportedly came from a senior Mumbai Indians official, and that talks moved towards the swap once Punjab showed interest.

Important: neither franchise nor the IPL has confirmed this yet. Until they do, it stays a report.

Why Punjab Kings want Hardik

Punjab Kings, coached by Ricky Ponting and led by Shreyas Iyer, have been looking for an experienced all-rounder who can contribute with both bat and ball. Reports suggest a Punjab XI with Hardik could also feature Azmatullah Omarzai and Marco Jansen, which would be a seriously strong all-round core.

There’s also the injury angle. Hardik hasn’t played since the IPL, and India ODI captain Shubman Gill said in Auckland that he is in touch with the 32-year-old, who is expected to play some domestic cricket before returning to the India side.

Why Mumbai Indians may let him go

Hardik’s second stint at Mumbai hasn’t gone the way the franchise hoped. After the all-cash move from Gujarat before IPL 2024, he captained MI for three seasons with limited success, and the team finished near the bottom of the table twice. Earlier, he spent seven years at MI (2015 to 2021) and won four titles in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020, before leading Gujarat Titans to the 2022 championship in their debut season.

On the other side, Arshdeep gives Mumbai a second elite Indian pacer to pair with Jasprit Bumrah, and Vishnu Vinod adds wicketkeeping and batting depth.

Arshdeep Singh: the other half of the deal

Arshdeep was released ahead of the 2025 mega-auction, then brought back by Punjab through the Right to Match card after Sunrisers Hyderabad raised their bid from ₹15.75 crore to ₹18 crore. His powerplay and death-over experience is a big reason he is a key part of India’s limited-overs plans, so losing him would hurt Punjab’s pace attack.

Other Teams in the Hardik Pandya Trade Race

Punjab isn’t the only franchise that has been linked with him. Mumbai reportedly explored options with at least three teams, and here is how those talks have looked.

FranchiseWhat’s been reportedCurrent picture
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)KKR need a captain and held advanced talks. MI reportedly asked for Harshit Rana and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. KKR won’t part with Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy or Rinku Singh, and Cameron Green is unlikely to be included.Stalled, with Raghuvanshi seen as the sticking point
Chennai Super Kings (CSK)Earlier reports mentioned Shivam Dube, Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan denied any talks, and CSK reportedly refused to give up Mhatre.Unlikely
Delhi Capitals (DC)Reported interest, with Axar Patel mentioned as a possible swap, according to Cricbuzz.Unconfirmed

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)Nicholas Pooran was mentioned as a possible swap piece.Unconfirmed
Gujarat Titans (GT)Hardik reportedly reached out, but his captaincy demands made GT back off.Unlikely

One more possibility floated earlier was that Hardik stays at Mumbai and simply loses the captaincy. With Punjab now reportedly ahead, that looks less likely, but it’s not off the table until the deal is signed.

What Happens Next for Punjab Kings If the Deal Goes Through?

A Hardik arrival reshuffles more than one department. If Arshdeep leaves, Punjab will want another left-arm quick, and reports say they may approach Lucknow Super Giants for Mohsin Khan, who is highly rated by the Punjab coaching staff provided he stays fit.

Marcus Stoinis would likely be squeezed out of the XI with Hardik in the side, which makes him a possible piece in that separate LSG deal. News24 is clear that the Mohsin and Stoinis idea is not part of the Hardik trade and remains unconfirmed.

Other IPL 2027 Trade Rumours to Watch

Beyond Hardik, a few other names surfaced in the earlier rumour round reported by The Sporting News in September. Treat these as older, lower-certainty chatter.

IPL 2027 Retention Deadline and Mini-Auction: How Trades Connect to Them

Trades, retentions and the auction are all part of the same puzzle. Here’s how they link up:

  1. Trades change a franchise’s squad and purse before the deadline.
  2. Retention and release lists are submitted by November 17, which shows who each of the ten franchises is keeping.
  3. The registered player pool is shared with franchises for shortlisting after the deadline, with the final list and set order sent in the week before the auction.
  4. The mini-auction on December 16 in Goa is where released players and new registrations go under the hammer.

That’s why the Hardik deal matters beyond the headline. If Punjab and Mumbai finalise it before November 17, both teams can plan their retention lists and auction targets around it.
